A time before time

In 2001, researchers Mario A. Hünicken, R.R. Leguizamón, and Adán Tauber, during an expedition to Pampa de la Virgen (north of Villa Sanagasta), discovered a series of nesting sites and abundant fossilized dinosaur eggshells (from the titanosaurid group). This finding raised new paradigms and hypotheses, as it suggested the need to reformulate the chronological framework of the region. The quest to answer old questions and develop new theories remains alive in ongoing studies.

Based on this discovery and the unique beauty of the region, on March 7, 2001, through Decree No. 115 (page 8) and ratified by Provincial Law No. 7093 (later amended by Laws No. 8096 and No. 8775), the Sanagasta Geological Park was created..
