Festival Chayero Sanagasteño

The most important event in Sanagasta, and the second most important in the province, is undoubtedly the Chayero Sanagasteño. For half a century, this venue has witnessed audiences celebrating and dancing to the rhythm of local, national, and international artists. Held at the foot of the mountains, it combines song, dance, drinks, and basil on the warm summer nights of La Rioja.

Religious celebration

Pilgrimage of the Virgen India

Every year, this traditional pilgrimage takes place, carrying the patron saint of Sanagasta, the "Virgen India", from the chapel of the same name to the Capital city. The celebration brings together thousands of parishioners who carry the image of the Virgin along the 32-kilometer route, covered entirely on foot. This tradition testifies to the ancient union between Criollos and Indigenous people.

Sporting event

Sanagasta en Primavera Trail

This relatively new sporting event has attracted hundreds of enthusiasts across the country. As its name suggests, it takes place at the beginning of spring and offers various competition categories in this discipline; the most popular being the 5, 10, and 15 km races (3, 6 & 9 miles). It also has children's and junior categories so that people of all ages can participate.

Chayas Barriales
