The most important event in Sanagasta, and the second most important in the province, is undoubtedly the Chayero Sanagasteño. For half a century, this venue has witnessed audiences celebrating and dancing to the rhythm of local, national, and international artists. Held at the foot of the mountains, it combines song, dance, drinks, and basil on the warm summer nights of La Rioja.

Every year, this traditional pilgrimage takes place, carrying the patron saint of Sanagasta, the "Virgen India", from the chapel of the same name to the Capital city. The celebration brings together thousands of parishioners who carry the image of the Virgin along the 32-kilometer route, covered entirely on foot. This tradition testifies to the ancient union between Criollos and Indigenous people.

This relatively new sporting event has attracted hundreds of enthusiasts across the country. As its name suggests, it takes place at the beginning of spring and offers various competition categories in this discipline; the most popular being the 5, 10, and 15 km races (3, 6 & 9 miles). It also has children's and junior categories so that people of all ages can participate.

Several rally organizations and competitions choose Sanagasta as their destination. International competitions like the Dakar Rally, as well as national and provincial rallies, have all taken place here. These events are spread throughout the year, so keeping an eye on Sanagasta's official social media channels is the best way to stay informed.

Every so often, this fair brings together numerous local producers, artisans, and entrepreneurs who can exhibit and sell directly to the public. You'll find a wide variety of goods: food, regional products, clothing, utensils, plants, and more. In addition, the fair is often enlivened by various artistic performances by local and/or regional talent.

Every year, the residents of Sanagasta gather to celebrate the legend of the Chaya with songs, dances, flour, and basil during the summer months. While anyone can organize their own Chaya celebration (public or private), some are historical and traditional in the area.
